MGHD14H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Trait Theory, Exchange Interaction
Document Summary
Only one that focuses on the interactions b/w the leader and the follower. Concerned with every individual relationship that the leader has. Goes up the charts: your supervisor with theirs & so on. You have to be aware of the relationship your supervisor has with their boss o. Impacts your ability to advance & get resources. Not everyone has the same relationship with their boss: potential for favouritism. Why is it good for the leader: rely on that person, reach the entire group through connection with one person. Why is it good: you get an idea of the follower & leader. Drawback: everyone is unique, very time consuming. Few studies that have looked at full sets of groups. Last decade where we see attempts to capture the relationships leaders have with all the members of their group. Used to be looked at from the follower perspective mostly. Most times 1 leader & 1 subordinate: sometimes more , above & beyond.
