Document Summary

Expressed in the complex interactions of values, attitudes, behavioural assumptions of a society. To understand a culture, we must reduce our theories to the study of values. Culture can be analyzed when looking at the mental representations and behaviours of members of a particular group. Only few management studies actually use this framework because of the lack of psychometric instrument when measuring the dimensions. People concentrate on living for the moment (being) vs. striving for goals (achieving) vs. reflecting (thinking) Is the culture more comfortable with a large personal bubble or do not mind being close to one another? (public or private) A lot of research has been done utilizing this framework. This framework was applied to the cultures of 40 countries. There are 6 dimensions, but 4 main ones: Some dimensions are not as important to a country in comparison to other dimensions. Pre-lecture 2: comparing cultures: power distance, uncertainty avoidance, masculinity/femininity.
