Mgta03 week 12 april 2, 2013 lecture. Human resources: most difficult to manage. Some key theories & experiments: most important to manage well, classical theory. You don"t want the people to be upset. People are turned on by money and nothing else. People will try/care more if you give them more money. However, this is not exactly true: scientific management. Productivity can be increased based on repetition of certain steps: hawthorn experiments. Taylorism assumes people are like robots, stand there do this over and over again and eventually it gets boring so people stop caring and they become alienated. Experiments done by harvard business professors, elton mayo (grandfathers) figured human motivation. Mayo had a theory that different environments could allow people to be relaxed about working, (paint colours, lighting, heating) The brighter the light, the more light bulbs they make.
