Psychological effects of public speaking: anxiety and anticipatory anxiety. Physical effects: fight or flight response- pupils dilate, heart beats faster, breathing rate increases, elevated stress hormones. How public speaking anxiety affects us: voice, mouth and throat, facial expression, general movement, verbal behaviour. Presentation aids can enhance your speech by improving at least three audience responses- attention, learning and recall. Attention: since people can think faster than you can talk so people(cid:859)s (cid:373)i(cid:374)ds (cid:272)a(cid:374) wander quickly, a visual aid will help hold their attention. Non-electronic presentation aids: objects (if not the object you are talking about itself, then a model of it), flavours, textures and odours, hand-outs, people.
