Document Summary
What do kcs use the olfac info from pns for? (learning) and talking ab/ the oscillations in the struc that help the temporal timing of input and how this timing helps bees to discrim b/w similar odours. Locusts have 400 pns that conv onto 1 kc. Kc are finely tuned to highly specific odours. Sparse rep is good for learning and discrim; you need to have a very specific understanding of what odour that is. In the locust: it"s been shown for over 20 yrs that there"s been this oscillatory act that"s important for getting info a/b odours. This shows odour causes act in mushroom bodies and its osc. This shows a local field pot: so you"re not recording from a neur; you"re just in the region of these neur. And b/c neur are firing in sync; you get oscill that are in this bulk rec of all act in that struc. They play an important role in kc excitability.
