NROB60H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Dura Mater, Pia Mater, Olfactory Bulb
Document Summary
The structure of the nervous system tells us about brain function. Earlier on, we learned about brain function by causing and observing deficits in animal models. For example, when the hippocampus is damaged, animals lost memory functions. When a portion of the hippocampus is removed in nroc60, and rats are put in the water maze test, no change happens because a large amount of tissue has to be removed for its effect to be seen. For example, they both have cerebellums and midbrains. For example, the human brain is gyrencephalic while the rat brain is lissencephalic. The human brain is much more complex in most areas, however some parts are specialized in some species. For example, the olfactory bulb is big and visible in rats but not in humans. The cerebrum is the largest part of the brain. Under the dura mater is the pia mater which is also part of the meninges.
