Document Summary

Hungry (stomach growls, low energy), mental illnesses, external stimuli, because you have to. Short-term regulation model- satiety signals rise in response to feeding. These signals might come from your stomach, liver and intestines. Short-term regulation model- satiety signals and orexin signals are in opposition. When satiety signals increase, our orexin signals decrease and as a result food consumption to stop. When satiety signals decrease, our orexin signals increase and food consumption will start up again. Meal initiation can be triggered by internal and external factors. External factors- emotional factors, time of day, availability and palatability. Meal termination is triggered by onset of satiety. Meal termination induced by such satiety signals can be demonstrated even when all neuronal connections between forebrain and hindbrain are severed (e. g. , decerebration). Evidence that hindbrain circuitry is itself sufficient to regulate meal size stems from experiments in. De-cerebrate rats, in which the hindbrain and forebrain are surgically disconnected.
