NROC61H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Fear Conditioning, Reductionism, Reward System
Document Summary
Very broad because there are many streams of neuroscience: physiology uses reductionist approach to explain underlying processes of a certain behavioral phenomenon. Its important to identify what if giving force into that behavior: knowing why" a behavior occurs, is important to understand before we look into how" the behavior was effected. Could be activating the reward system or drug x is activating the system: understanding behavior helps explain why certain physiological phenomena occur. Could have a class in the room you did well in. Or you have an adverse experience before or a novel response if it"s the first time you have been to this room. Habituation: gradual decrease in strength of response to a repeated non- meaningful stimulus. Sensitization --> increase in strength of responses to range of stimuli following an aversive (intense or noxious) stimulus.
