Why do we think consent is morally relevant: autonomy; patients self determination agency in their life, respecting her wishes/what she wants, balance between her wishes (self determination) and social justice (mri"s are expensive) We have a limited amount of social funding. Stage of her illness; quality of life left for her: if she has family. Her family"s wish: intensity of intestinal obstruction. If it"s going to kill her or if it keeps her going. How threatening it is: if she is already in the hospital for intubation for advanced dyspnea. Give her an mri at night, when it is not as needed as much. What should happen in this case: get the organs from the infant before the baby dies. Our thoughts/needs to know the baby passes away painlessly. Codes of ethics and conduct: sometimes professional codes. Legal statues: we look to federal and provincial law for guidance. Maybe there is a law that is not protective enough.
