Description
Descartes Meditation FiveSo far the meditator has established a good deal about the nature of his own mind and he has also secured the CD Rule by demonstrating that God exists and cannot be a deceiverHis next priority is to see if anything certain is to be had concerning material things 45But before he considers whether any material objects exist in the world he first considers his idea or concept of extensionHe finds that he knows quite a lot about the nature of material objects that holds true regardless of whether any such things existSpecifically he has countless ideas of certain things that are not fabricated but instead have their own true and immutable natures 45 eg a triangle even if perhaps no such figure exists outside my thought anywhere in the world and never has the triangle still has a certain determinate nature essence or form
