Document Summary

Why/why not: which of the following are sentences of sl, symbolization. I realized, as i lay in bed thinking, that we are not responsible for what we do. This is because either determinism or indeterminist must be true. If so, we are but puppets on strings our actions are not free. If indeterminism is true, then human actions are random and hence not free. If our actions are not free, it must be conceded that we are not responsible for what we do. If determinism is true, we cannot do other than we do. If i cannot do otherwise, we will not be free. If indeterminism is true, the acts are random. We are not responsible for what we do. Assignment 1: will be announced at the end of class today. Office hours: slightly revised i will be available from 1:30-3:30 in po102-104. Slightly different structure for lectures: first 10-15 minutes will be reserved for discussing exercises from previous weeks.
