Polb50 tut may 30/2017: be it resolved: canadian identity is undermined by regional, provincial, and other sources of identity. Or is that supplanted by other provincial or regional sources of identity. Can depend on who you ask: atlantic canada, quebec, ontario, the prairies, bc, the north. Sometimes you might hear of other terms: the maritimes distinct from atlantic canada refers to nova scotia, new. Brunswick, and pei (newfoundland not included)d: the west bc does not like being a part of this, central canada ontario and quebec, eastern canada. Strong convention is that there is regional representation. In the senate, also on a regional basis: 24 from ontario, 24 from quebec, 24 from the maritimes, 6 from ns, nb, pei, nfld, 24 from the west, 6 from bc, ab, sk, and mb. Different parts of the country attach in different ways to their regional or provincial identities.
