Lecture 02: state power -- political and civil society. Why is studying the state important: a set of institutions which create a framework within which politics operates, effects all aspects of life in general, states resolve conflict between different classes. If the state doesn"t moderate conflict than we lose order. Law and order is an important function of the state. State appears to be the focus of power and struggle over power: not just that the state determine us but that we determine state, state seems to be able to do things.
