Ethnic mobilizations are motivated by expressive not instrumental needs. Ethnicity is not subject to rational cost/benefit calculations. People join ethnic movements when there is a pay-off doing so: marxism. Ethnicity is second to deeper forces such as material interests and class conflicts. (bourgeoisie and proletariat) Marxist revolution (workers of the world unite) will end ethnic based thinking they are internationalists.
