October 12 , 2010 -the measurement of social memory is difficult to do and raises the question of what social memory is Why would people choose to return if they have suffered? -prior to 1933, Jews were well integrated in the German society -Nazis passed a law for the restoration for the professional civil service -used to force the dismissal for Jewish doctors, lawyers, etc -all these positions were closed to Jews and only open to Arians -laws forbade marriages between Jews and Arians -public spaces became dangerous places -after crystal night, any hesitation that Jews had that this could turn around was forgotten and realized it was in their best interest to leave -During 1941-1943 Jews were sent to camps, where they were starved to death or worked to death and tortured; this is forced migration Einhorn: -the 5 women returned after being exiled to Germany -they
