PSYA01H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Neuron, Multiple Sclerosis, Neurotransmitter
Document Summary
When an action potential wants to fire, a signal is going to travel down the axon. The depolarization that will begin very close to the nerve cell will cause a depolarization of the next part of the axon and depolarization of the next part and so on. Between nerve cells, mechanism nerve cells used to pass a signal from one nerve cell to another. Receptor sites are where chemicals released can connect to if they fit. Third step of the process called re-uptake: after neuron releases the neurotransmitter it recycles and bring the components of the neurotransmitter back in and reforms it ready to use it again. Neurotransmitter brought back into the nerve cell. Some drugs interfere with this process so the neurotransmitter stays out there longer than supposed to.
