Subliminal perception: sends messages to unconscious mind, are there 2 thresholds, study to see if there perception between unconscious and conscious mind. Signal detection theory: hit (yes)- when they saw something there, miss(no)- didn"t see anything, false alarm (yes)- saying something is there when its not, correct negative (no), bias can still have an effect, effects both hit and miss. Sdt: the logic, step 1: trick is to use manipulation that will vary response bias and test a given subject under a number of levels of this manipulation.
