LECTURE 20- Sensation (Chapter 15)
Vision conclusion: the transduction process
Visual system is able to transform light waves into electro-chemical nerve impulses through
the use of photoreceptors.
Some people say the eyeball is part of the brain.
Interesting cells of the eye- ganglion, bipolar, optic nerve.
Audition: air being pushed together with certain frequencies.
Like the eye, the ear is able to take a physical stimulus (sound waves) and convert it to a nerve
impulse which is passed along to the brain.
Things that are far apart are better- such are ears.
The Doppler effect of sound that is closer to you increases frequencies. As sound that is away
from you, you are stretching the frequencies. Thats why you hear the high and low sounds.
