Display rules: learned ways of controlling displays of emotion in social settings. Tendency to form judgments relati(cid:448)e to a (cid:862)(cid:374)eutral(cid:863) le(cid:448)el: brightness of lights, volume of sound, level of income. Perception that one is worse off relative to those with whom one compares oneself. Although the situations that cause these emotions may differ from culture to culture, the expression of particular emotions remains strikingly the same. The process by which people predict how they would feel in the future, after various positive and negative events. People have difficulty predicting their emotions in response to future events. People overestimate the duration of their emotional reactions (durability bias) Imagining alternative scenarios and outcomes that might have happened but did not. More likely in response to negative events.
