Cultural and biological approaches to psychology 11. Physical development from conception through infancy 23. Biological, environmental and behavioural influences on intelligence 32. Personality: persons characteristic pattern of thinking, behaving, feeling unique to them and remains relatively stable over time and situations. Two approaches to personality measurement: 1: idiographic approach: focus in creating description of an individual"s unique personality characteristics, 2: nomothetic approach: examine personality in large groups to make generalizations about personality structure. Egg: look at if a certain type of ppl more likely to do a certain behaviour. Key is identifying important personality traits related to whatever you are trying to understand. Early trait research: personality trait: describes a specific psychological characteristic that is part of a person"s personality, traits summarize lots of info about a person. Easier to make ppl think you are measuring their personality than to actually measure it: factor analysis: used to group items ppl respond to similarly.
