-patient is taught to realize and avoid catastrophic thinking
2. Systemic desensitization
-begin with source of fear
-work to get patient becomes relaxed when the object of fear comes closer
-successive step of bringing the phobia to the patient
-associate feeling of relaxation with the fear of object
-try to remove bad feeling with the object
-bring the object closer through conditioning and association
