The desire for social relations exist at birth. As represented both by maternal instincts and through specific behaviours emitted by the infant. Ex: seeing if your crush does or does not look at you before you initiate a conversation. Negative reinforcement: occurs when an existing stimulus is removed to improve an individual"s behaviour. Ex: your brother comes to bother you while you are studying for an exam, and you yell at him. He then goes away; now you know that if he comes again you can yell at him once more. Formed during the first six months of life. The lifelong emotional bond that exists between the infants and their mothers or other caregivers. Harry harlow separated infant monkeys from their mothers at birth and put them in cages containing two inanimate surrogate, one made of wire and one made of terry cloth. They would seek comfort in either these wire or terry cloth mothers.
