Document Summary

Freud has influenced current clinical psychology and psychiatry. However, his theories are not as accurate and influential as in the past. Interested in why individuals behave the way that they do. With his discussions with his patients, he discovered that there are many issues that individuals do not think they desire. Came to believe that all human behavior is motivated by instinctual desires that provide psychic energy. These drives could be unconscious as well as conscious. What you have access to in your mind. Filled with all your life experiences, including infancy. What you do not have access to in your mind. It is not nearly impossible to bring these thoughts to your conscious mind. In this image, the iceberg above the water represents our conscious mind, while the rest of the iceberg represents our unconscious mind. It means that most of our thought processes are influenced by our unconscious mind, although we may believe this is not true!
