Psya02 lecture 19 - classification and diagnoses of mental disorders march 14th. Remember: do not try to diagnose yourself and those around. You can possess some traits but not actually have the disorder. It is important to remember-people are not just their disorders! People are not schizophrenics , alcoholics , autistics , phobics or. Bipolars - but rather people with schizophrenia, alcoholism, autism etc. It"s not always so clear-cut as you can see above, quite difficult and cloudy. Provide examples of what is normal and what isn"t: how does the notion of what is normal differ across cultures, often they do not, what is normal in one culture may be abnormal in another. Is there a fixed definition of normal just like there are laws of physics: not really So, how do we construe the definition of what is normal and what is not: and are you defining a person as abnormal or their behaviour as abnormal.
