Set of clinical techniques used to improve mental health. Classical conditioning creating a response to a stimulus. There are several approaches to cognitive-behavioural therapy: rational emotive behaviour therapy, rational behaviour therapy, rational living therapy, cognitive therapy, dialectic behaviour therapy. Characteristics of cognitive-behaviour therapies: thoughts that cause feelings and behaviours, brief and time-limited . In comparison, psychoanalysis takes several years: emphasis placed on current behaviour, cbt is a collaborative effort between the therapist and the client. Define goals, express concerns, learn, and implement learning. Therapist role help clients define goals, listen, teach, and encourage. They are a learner: teaches the benefit of remaining calm or at least neutral when faced with difficult situations, based o(cid:374) (cid:862)(cid:396)atio(cid:374)al thought(cid:863) Fact not assumptions: cbt is structured and directed; it is based on the notion that maladaptive behaviours are the result of skill deficits, based on the assumption that most emotional and behavioural reactions are learned.
