oIf u live with sustains stress over time
Very bad for health
Dealing with stressor that is not going away
Stress accumulates and is not good for you
oStress is a response to a stressor (something challenging in the
environment)
oEveryone has stress based on a challenge in the environment
oStressor: Exam, computer stolen, fight with parents etc. (See SRRS in next
slide)
Fear of preditor
oA stress response includes:
Sympathetic arousal (linked to fight or flight response)
Encountering a treat and responding to either fight the
threat or escape
Requires mobilizing energy- to run fast or to fight
Stress hormones
Heart pounding
Adrenal gland activated- excrete hormones- cortisol,
adrenaline
oChronic or Accumulated stress can be detrimental to health
oThe Social Readjustment Rating Scale (SRRS)
oHow to measure stress
oEspecially in accumulated factors
oMeasure stress in the totality
oStandardized the amount of stress
