Hostile aggression - to inflict pain as end goal. Instrumental aggression - aggression is the means to another goal. What may determine aggression: heat ; higher average temperatures in weather during the season. The heat may frustrate you: media violence; may influence others, copycat violence; imitating directly what others see on tv. Is related to an increase in suicide rates. Southern usa is more aggressive than the north. Men tend to be more aggressive, and towards other men. Women engage in relational aggression (i. e. rumors, talking behind someone"s back) Dehumanization: when we are aggressing against a group, people refer to the outgroup as resembling disgusting animals. Altruism: desire to help another with no benefit to yourself. Empathic concern - we are sympathetic to someone but does not feel distress. Empathic distress - you feel the pain the other is going through. Negative state relief - when we help to produce our own distress.
