Emotion is brief, physiological and psychological response to an event. Felt subjectively and prepares a person for action. 6 basic emotions: fear, anger, disgust, sadness, happiness, surprise. Complex emotions: blends of basic emotions, positive emotions. Highly rehearsed emotion or an attitude towards someone: self-conscious emotions elicited by the self. Feel like actions were necessary on a forced situation. People who are guilt-prone, do better with being workplace leaders, have better social relationships. Happiness, disgust and sadness are standard length. Anger, fear are longer than above: these things are not emotions. Use emotion words to describe someone"s personality (cid:498)he"s an angry person(cid:499) By itself, level of arousal: physiology and emotion. Emotions cannot be identified by peripheral responses. Limbic system: amygdala: fear/anger, hypothalamus: laughter/amusement. Physiological profiles and locations help us understand arousal, intensity and possible circuits. Emotions cannot be identified by examining physiological states. Every emotion has a distinct, specific pattern of physiological responses that characterizes and underlies it.
