Specific phobias are unwarranted fears caused by the presence or anticipation of a specific object or situation. The fear and avoidance are out of proportion to the danger actually posed. The dear and avoidance are recognized by the sufferer as groundless. Groundless - not based on any good reason. The fear, must be accompanied by sufficient distress to disrupt one"s life. Phobia - unable to come over their fear and results in them not being able to continue with life. In dsm-5, specific phobias are subdivided according to the source of the fear. Other (for all other phobias; e. g. , vomiting, clowns) Remember, the specific fear focused on in a phobia can vary cross culturally and can seem odd to others. Persistent, irrational fears of being judged by other people. Avoidance of situations in which person feels they might be evaluated, fearing that they will real signs of anxiousness or behave in an embarrassing way.
