Document Summary

Anything a person says or does: has both overt and covert behaviours. Overt behaviours: are visible to others, can be easily observed and recorded by others ex. Seeing someone kicking a ball or running for the bus. Covert behaviours: private, internal, cannot be easily observed by others (e. g. , feelings and thoughts) How fast did you kick that ball: behaviours vary on these dimensions. In behaviour modification approach, it is important to be precise when describing behaviours and behavioural problems: the idea of precisions is fundamental. Focus on the behaviours themselves, not labelling the person as the problem: talking about the behaviour, not the person. Behavioural deficits: too little of a particular type of behaviour ex. Behavioural excesses: too much of a particular type of behaviour ex. Studying up study space in the most helpful way, away from distractions. Behaviour modification methods and rationales can be described precisely.
