Cbt and other therapeutic approaches psyb45 (lec 12) Cognitive behaviour therapy (cbt: cognitions: refer to thoughts, beliefs, expectancies, attitudes, perceptions, cognitive behaviour therapy: uses cognitive and behavioural strategies to help modify problematic thinking and maladaptive behaviours that are contributing to psychological distress. It wont work for everyon, but based on strong research, its very effective and its more effective than either no treatment or other treatments that have been compared to during experiments. We can change our emotional and psychological reactions by modifying how we think or how we perceive a situation, as well as by modifying how we behave in response to a situation. Thoughts and reactions are really critical to how we behave. Diagram since all of it is connected, the premise is that, we need to make improvements to the therapy to fix their emotions, thoughts and behaviour to have an influence on their behaviour later on.
