PSYB45 Lecture 14
DRA
oDifferential reinforcement of alternative behavior
oExtinction and reinforcement are the two parts
oLady trying to take money from atm
Punching correct code numbers in the atm is reinforcing because money
comes out
Extinguishing component is putting wrong number in, punching in
numbers too quickly, so dont get money out (absence)
oChild’s good table manners
Are reinforced by praise and getting access food, condiments etc
And their bad behaviors are extinguished by not getting food, condiments
oDRI
Variation of DRA
Two behaviors that cannot occur together
Eg driving after excessive alcohol intake
Incompatible behavior is taking a cab or getting a ride from a sober
person
oCant do this while driving home drunk
Eg biting fingernails
So incompatible behavior would be to put their hands in their
pockets so hands below shoulder level so cant bite (deep inside
pockets)
Eg swearing
Incompatible behavior would be talking without swearing
