Willy
oFemale staff member makes a request – antecedent
oBehavior is refusing to complete task and making sexist remark
oConsequence is staff member walks away and paying no attention
Eg child engaging in tantrum when told to do chores
oResponse before treatment is that parent does the household task instead
Child with autism is providing his own reinforcing behavior by waving hand in front of
his face
oBut we still want to engage in extinction even if he is not harming anyone because
going to alienate themselves more
Never assume that you know what the reinforce is
Iwata et al. study
oSIB – self-injurious behaviors
oEach of them had separate reasons for engaging in the behavior
oAttention, when some placed demand upon them, and third was sensory
stimulation
When you employ extinction there is an extinction burst and this can come in many
different forms
oIf its dangerous then maybe not good to engage in extinction
oYou have to make sure that child doesnt hurt themselves
Extinction remember you have to make sure everyone engages with it
oBecause if you dont then intermittent reinforcement
Implement data collection
oMethod that youre using has to capture every instance that the behavior happens
in
oEg tantrums can occur at home, school etc
