PSYB45 Lecture 8
Target behaviour can be anyt hing like getting a dog to walk in a circle
Eg beginning behaviour is dog just watching owner
oFinal behaviour would be dog spinning around in a circle
So shaping involves successive steps logically that will get to target behaviour
Eg dog
oFirst step is looking at owner
oSecond step would be to get the dog to come towards you
oThird step would be to orient his head in the way you want him to spin but dont
physically move it yourself because then animal doesnt have full control
oFourth step would be at different places in the circle you award them a treat then
once do full circle then stop rewarding eg at first step in circle and instead reward
in second step in circle
Topography
oEg someone learning to play golf and they only have a rud imentary swing
If you were a coach you would slowly work away from the beginning
stroke to a more advanced stroke
Eg rat to press lever
oEg walk towards lever you reward
oPuts paw on lever you rewards
oBut after a while you stop rewarding this and only reward when they press the
lever
Child babbling behaviour
oWhen baby
oWhen babble the parents pay attention
oSo shaping this naturally occur ring behaviour
oEg no longer interested in the babbling and instead interested in sound-like words
