Document Summary

Everything we feel, think and do depends on sensations and perceptions. Sensation - the ability to detect a stimulus and perhaps, turn that detection into a private experience. Ex. detecting a pressure of a finger and turning that detection into a private experience. Perception - the act of giving meaning to a detected sensation. What is the faintest sound you can hear? or what is the limit to a particular sensory perception, such as how far can you see etc. Gustav fechner/wilhelm wundt - founder of experimental psychology. Dualism - the idea that the mind has an existence separate from the material world of the body. Materialism - the idea that the only thing that exists is matter, and that all things, including the mind and consciousness are the results of interactions between bits of matter. (materialists mind is not separate)
