Document Summary

How neurons capture physical information from the environment. Receptors in the skin capture heat waves, vibration, pain, etc. Transduction: taking physical energy and converting into neural signals. Making sense of the environment and making sense of the sensory signals. Sensation isn"t the same thing as perception. Damage to the occipital lobe leads to partial or full cortical blindness. After strokes, when they have these blind spots, they have the damage on the brain itself. Bottom left occipital lobe has been compromised when one experiences a blind spot in the top right corner of their vision. If both occipital lobes have been compromised, one can experience the similarity of blindness (even when eyes are working perfectly) In brain plasticity, parts of the brain can be reprogrammed. Individuals born with blindness will eventually learn to read braille. The occipital lobes get remapped for touch when individuals are reading braille.
