PSYB57H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Capgras Delusion, Two-Streams Hypothesis, Mind-Wandering
Document Summary
We see things and we want to understand what we are looking at as well at where something is, so that we can understand and interact in our world. Example: d. k was diagnosed with visual agnosia and suffered damage to the ventral stream. They had her match the card with the direction that the slot hole was. This task would require visual orientation and she has damage to this area, so she could not perform this explicit task. When they tell her to place the card into the slot, using an action task, she does it perfectly. In another example they tell her to act like she is going to place a card in a slot that is perfectly horizontal or vertical. This shows that her ventral stream for orientating and recognizing an object is impaired, but she does not have trouble using something to perform a task, using the dorsal stream.
