Lecture 2  Membranes of meninges! different layers!  as the human brain develops, it start up smooth! and eventually grows! because of the high number of dendrites and tissues! therefore they form gyrus (highly folded)  Sulcus (sulci ) the vallies! if they are really huge they are called fissure!  Gyrus are the mountains!  right side of the brain receives information from the left side of the body! Contralateral! Left brain=> right side of the body!  Longitudinal fissure divides the two hemispheres into right and left!  The two hemispheres are connected and interchange information! not directly on the top! Corpus Collusum! the fiber pathways cross over the corpus collusum! it goes straight through! Direct connection!  There are three main sulci: 1) longitudinal fissure 2) central sulcus (fissure) frontal lobe and parietal lob 3) Sylvian Sulcus runs up the side of the brain and it separates out the temporal lobe  Cerebral cortex has 4 lobes => 1) Frontal 2) Parietal 3) Temporal 4) Occipital  each lobe has one major primary function!  within each lobe there are two types of cortex (tissues) known as primary cortex and Associational cortex.  primary cortex is involved with basic input and output function in that specific lobe!  If its receiving information it would a primary receptive area! in that lobe!!  Associational cortex => higher order, complex! it is more recently evolved! Though process of the part of lobe!  The more evolved an organism is, it would have more associational cortex!  Frontal Lobe =>(long term, short term) planning, inhibition of inappropriate behaviours (delay gratification), visceral sensation!  Area 4 and 6 (primary cortex of frontal lobe). Pre-central gyrus (right in front of central sulcus) if you are trying to move your hand that's where it starts! Associational cortex though it's more of planning, you are going to medschool!  pre-central cortex is not just organized randomly! Motor homunculus! very important!  Its primary function is to receive information from somatosensory senses! not the special senses (vision, smell, hearing) ! form the body!  Post central gyrus is the
