Categorization & stereotypes: stereotypes are traits associated with category. Groups: categorize world into in-groups & out-groups, one simple, fundamental way we categorize things, **fundamental way in which we categorize the world. Important: divides the world into two ways, ppl who are w me and like me and ppl who are not like me fundamental because we have a simple rule. In-group love: outgroup derogation, not liking the out group as much, two things are separate, tend to think of out-groups as all the same, og homogeneity. Just because i love in-group doesn"t mean i love outgroup: think of the out group having same characteristics, but think of the in group as different individuals, having differences. Origin of stereotypes: environmental: not part of our machinery or head but out of our head, how do our parents, friends the media influence us, can it create and maintain stereotypes to influence the way things are.
