Group differences in measurement of intellectual performance iclicker questions. This model helps us understand why there are differences in performance across groups. It tells us the stereotypes of a group, the situation, the personal characteristics. When the threat appraisal is made, there are volitional or non-volitional responses that help the person cope with the situation, and then there is an outcome at the end. The graph comes from a meta-analysis that comes from many studies, and looks at the gender differences in math performance across age. Negative numbers signify an advantage for girls or women, and positive numbers for men or boys. Performance seems to favor boys or men, but this is not always the case. If anything, in elementary school there is a slight advantage for girls, in high school, college, and then finally adulthood, fairly substantial differences are seen, the advantages are for men or boys.
