Document Summary

Week 5 lecture #4: monday may 30, 2016. Provides foundations for all forms of life, including higher forms of life related to humans, culture, socialization and etc. (all kinds of social constructs) To understand culture and human nature is to understand the evolution. Common/ biggest misconception is that culture and biological evolution is separate. Charles darwin the finding father of evolution. Ppl believed that humans were immune to this evolutionary pressure (not true) Idea of reproduction of favourable traits and repeated through genes. In 20th century, humans were discounted from the evolutionary principle. Biological geneticist wrote famous book in 1976 called the selfish gene . Msg in both books is that humans aren"t immune to social evolutionary pressure. Controversial topic at the time, they were one of the first ppl to make this point. Still not agreed upon that evolution has an effect on culture & etc. We"re not just biological or social creatures, we"re both.
