PSYC14H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Cognitive Therapy, Convergent Validity, Signify
Document Summary
Humans have the unique ability to introspect (look within ourselves) and contemplate past, present and future. Due to these abilities, we can ask big philosophical questions which non- human species can"t. This is a psychological trait we possess, and just like any trait, there are variations in how the trait is expressed. Most notably, we see this expressed as differences in culture. This is the twenty-statements test ! you begin each line with i am and then complete each line with a description of yourself. Although we ask these questions on a daily basis, we don"t really explicitly think about it. One research study explored the 20 statements test among kenyans and americans, which have a wide variation in collectivism vs individualism. On the y-axis we have the % of statements. The legend shows whether these statements referred to personal characteristics or roles and memberships.
