Document Summary
Do emotions influence expressions? we feel an emotion internally and that induces an expression of it. Simply expressing an emotion physically, causes changes in motional experience it"s not an unidirectional relationship. Emotions have consistent patterns of expressions that are universal (doesn"t matter if you have different race, culture, etc. ) Expression paired with that emotion should be universal across cultures ia. Expression paired with that emotion should be universal across cultures. Cognitive appraisal (being able to cognitively interpret the emotions/situations) is important in producing emotion. But each emotion still has a unique bio-behavioural output. Not just biology shapes your emotion, also about how you interpret the situation, your surroundings, culture, etc. Most important part is the cognitive put on top of the bodily feel. No predetermined behavioural, expressive, or bodily response that is specific to any one emotion e. g. , laughing at a funeral (it"s not funny but you are feeling nervous) Automatic processes elicit specific bodily activations = specific emotional.
