Document Summary

We have activation of systems and inhibition of systems: we activate the cerebral cortex and we inhibit emotions. The action model is not concerned about emotion it s concerned about adaptation. Cognition + arousal = emotion (where emotion really means adaptation) Know what nisbett and schachter said for the exam (it s at the bottom of slide title stanley shachter) Emotion (visceral arousal) = cognition (knowledge of situation) + arousal: the less arousal the less emotion in an emotional situation, if you don t feel your body s reaction to it, then your cognition will be less. you need the cognition, and the juice . Arousal = visceral reaction that juices up the emotion slide 13: most susceptible to look around to figure out what happens in the body subjects laughed more in the epinephrine arousal but did not like it. Women laughed more and liked the cartoons more.
