PSYC18H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Sehar, Agoraphobia, Impulsivity
Document Summary
Some emotions are stronger than others, typically we think of negative emotions overpowering positive emotions. But this is not always the case, the balance may be skewed towards the positive side and still be maladaptive. Having panic attacks while being around a lot of people agoraphobia, is an inappropriate emotional response. We all get either too sad or too emotional over certain things, people who can regulate their emotional responses do not have them affect their day to day life. Studies show that it is not that they are good or bad, they just need to be regulated at the appropriate times. Seeing, tasting, touching, etc. are the sensory/perceptual sensations. They all come from environmental outputs, we get sensory input, and we do things with it like analyzing, self-reflecting, etc. If someone has an emotional disorder, their thoughts and self-reflections are all going to be disordered and skewed in a negative way.
