Document Summary

Cultural perspectives: emotions are determined, expressed, and perceived through whatever culture you find yourself in. *the enviro favours some heritable variations over others: emotional expressions are adaptions. They are actions that helped our ancestors survive. Match with emotions our ancestors felt conditioning; emotion = internal feeling that is paired with the expression: evolution and culture. The reason that different cultures evolved and why there are diff w/in cultures = primitive urges propel us to act in a certain way. Language urge to communicate with each other; adaptation. Culture controls primitive urges (i. e. culture is needed to act as emotional regulation mechanism) E. g. cultural norms tell us when it"s appropriate to express something (don"t laugh at funeral) Relationship btw evolution and culture = bidirectional not only does evolution influence culture, but culture influences evolution. Culture changes but sometimes our bodies and minds can"t keep up there are limits to evolutionary adaptation.
