Document Summary

Some psychologists argue that cognitive neuroscience (in this case affective neuroscience) has helped us learn more about the brain than the mind (or about human nature) Experiments about the emotion and the brain reveal knowledge about the brain, such as which regions of the brain are implicated or various cognitive/emotional processes, but not the nature of these processes. But the argument is that we should be more aware of the phenomenological aspect of emotions. This idea brings up a distinction btw what the mind is vs. brain. Even though certain mind processes are represented in the brain, many argue the mind and brain are separate things. Some concepts like self-awareness are difficult to map onto specific patterns of our brain activities. When a tree falls, physical structures in your ear pick up on waves which your brain processes and interprets as sound but the perception of the sound is in your mind.
