Document Summary

Psyc18- the psychology of emotion - may 12th, 2016. Empirical evidence for the evolution of the 6 basic emotions. 1) thought certain traits were more advantageous than others and those with these traits have a greater chance of survival. That trait has given them advantages in certain environments making them most likely to survive. These advantages can be passed down to offspring. 2) thought these traits could evolve and be achieved in a species life time. E. g. a giraffe could acquire a long neck in his life time by stretching and pass it on to his offspring. ( wrong) Uniformitarianism - the earth has been shaped by forces that are still in action today. Controversial because in opposition to christian thoughts (earth was created the way it is) Population growth is kept in check with various vices if you are able to combat these vices, you are more likely to survive. Observations were made on the galapagos islands.
