Principles of developmental science: open, irreversible, active, growth and increased complexity greater complexity= more efficient system= less energy demanding= less potential. Developmental systems theory: reciprocal relations between organism and environment in which sybsystems interact and time is dynamic the organism responds to the environment and the organism changes the next time it responds to the environment. The ability of an organism to react to an environmental input with a change in form, state, movement or rate of activity can be in terms of gene expression, neural activity or cognitive behavior.
