Psy62: drugs & the brain lecture 1. Perception: processing of sensory information from sensory organs to the brain. Psychopharmacology: how drugs affect mood, perception, thinking, behaviour. Neuropsychopharmacology: extension of psychopharmacology, also looking at neurobiological system that mediates the changes in mood, perception, thinking, behaviour. Examples of drugs: antidepressant, cigarettes, caffeine, sugar & food, vitamins. Some of these things are not looked at as drugs until they become a tool of abuse, but they are scientifically in the way they effect your brain (psych, physical, etc) Instrumental use can turn into recreational use: e. g. : prescription turns to abuse.
